About Augusta

Established in 1736, Augusta is among Georgia’s oldest cities. It sits near the Savannah River, just a few minutes away from the historic city of Savannah. Like the rest of the state, Augusta enjoys short and mild winters and humid summers. Much like its older neighbor Savannah, Augusta’s downtown area is also a historic district. The Woodrow Wilson Boyhood Home, a 19th century mansion where Woodrow Wilson grew up, is also a popular place for tours and exhibits.

Other places to visit include the Morris Museum of Art, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Riverwalk Augusta, Meadow Garden, Augusta Museum of History, Pendleton King Park, and the Aqueduct Park right on Augusta Levee Road. Augusta is known around the world as the home of the Augusta National Golf Club, which hosts the prestigious Masters golf tournament each year.

Augusta is a regional center of medicine, biotechnology, and cyber security. Augusta University, the state’s only public health sciences graduate university, employs over 7,000 people. Some of the to employers in the area include Fort Gordon, Augusta University, and the Richmond County School System.
